After nearly seven weeks of recuperation from a dislocated ankle suffered in early September against Jacksonville, Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is finally ready to return to the starting lineup this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, and has been fully cleared by team doctors to receive his next major injury at any time.
“I’m pleased to report that Robert’s ankle is now 100% healed, and our medical staff has declared him fit and ready to suffer his next significant fracture, laceration, or other trauma,” confirmed Redskins coach Jay Gruden. “Of course at this time we don’t know if it will be a groin pull, a torn bicep, a broken collarbone, or even a shattering of his reconstructed knee, but I can tell you that he’s anxious to get back out there on the field so he can find out what new ailment he’ll be rehabilitating for the next 6-8 weeks or so.”
Griffin, 24, won Rookie of the Year honors on 2012 after being selected 2nd overall in that year’s draft. However, his three-year NFL career has been plagued by numerous injuries, the latest of which Griffin will be eligible to be inflicted with at any time beginning this weekend.
“While it certainly is disappointing to know that I’ll be missing time due to whatever sprain or bruise I’ll be receiving soon, I can assure you that I will work very hard to come back from that forthcoming injury just as quickly as possible,” Griffin told reporters before Friday practice. “But until then, I’m going to enjoy this period of good health by getting out there and playing the best darn football that I OWWWW,” concluded Griffin, before stubbing his toe roughly on the podium, a wound that doctors say should heal up by sometime next March or so.
