Oddsmakers List Raiders As Slight Favorites To Make It From Locker Room To Field Without Tripping Sunday
OAKLAND – In advance of Sunday’s bay area showdown between the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders, oddsmakers at several prominent Las Vegas casinos have established the Raiders as a surprising 3:5 favorite to successfully navigate the walk from their home stadium’s locker room onto the field of play during pre-game introductions without tripping, falling, or otherwise stumbling en route, according to well-placed casino sources.
“This is a fairly shocking opening line,” said ESPN sports betting analyst Chad Millman. “I would have thought that at the very minimum, the Raiders would be listed as an even-money prospect to trip and fall somewhere along the way. Frankly I think this is a sucker’s bet. If you place $200 on Oakland to make it all the way to the field without floundering somewhere, and in the unlikely event they mange to actually pull that off, you’d still only make $120 profit. I wouldn’t touch that action.”
Added Millman: “Don’t forget that old rule of thumb in NFL betting: ‘When you place your money down, pick the Raiders to fall on the ground.’
Raiders fans took the news as a sign of encouragement for their struggling 1-11 team.
“Whoo-hoo, Raiders! Clearly, we’re making progress,” shouted long time season ticket holder Robbie Dotson. “You know what they say: ‘Commitment to Equilibrium!’ ‘Just Walk, Baby!’”
Other NFL observers were not as confident, however.
“Three-to-five that the entire Raiders team makes it onto the field without at least one of them falling flat on their face? Hell yeah, that’s easy money,” declared local gambler Johnny “No Thumbs” Graziani. “At the very minimum, you just know that Sebastian Janikowski will be all liquored up before the game. I expect him to fall asleep somewhere in the tunnel before he even makes it out into the field.”
