ALTERNATE UNIVERSE UPDATE: Geno Smith Leads NFL in Pro Bowl Voting
NEW YORK – Sensational Jets rookie QB Geno Smith leads all NFL players in Pro Bowl voting, and is on pace to shatter the record for widest margin of election by a Pro Bowl starter, according to alternate univer NFL ballot tabulation sources.
“We’ve never seen such a landslide of votes for a single player,” said a league spokesperson. “In the past, we’ve had stars like Tom Brady, Barry Sanders, and Jerry Rice dominate the voting process, but never to an overwhelming degree such as this. With over three million votes so far and counting, Geno Smith is going to be a darn near unanimous choice as the AFC’s starter in the Pro Bowl game.”
Added the spokesperson, “The next closest candidate is Peyton Manning with three votes, and we’re pretty sure those came from his wife and two kids.”
Smith, whose 40 TDs and 3,931 yards both lead the league, has electrified the NFL with his precision passing and veteran-like poise. Sunday’s 23-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins moved the Jets to 12-0 on the year, and a Super Bowl berth for the New York juggernaut seems all but inevitable, thanks to Smith’s superb performance this season.
“We moved up to select Geno in the 2nd round of last April’s draft, and boy oh boy did it pay off,” said Jets coach Rex Ryan. “Good thing too, because after Mark Sanchez got hurt in the preseason, Geno was our only option. Can you imagine how bad we’d be if Geno hadn’t turned out to be the superstar he is?”
For his part, Smith says he’s happy to be the league’s newest superstar.
“I’m having a blast, and I’m thrilled to be enjoying the success we’ve had. I try to remember that not all quarterbacks have rookie seasons like this. Some first year guys struggle to adapt to the pro game, and a few even find themselves sitting on the bench. I’m just glad I’m not one of those losers.”
