ALTERNATE UNIVERSE: Trent Richardson Continues To Dominate Since Trade to Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS – The blockbuster trade executed earlier this season between the Browns and the Colts continues to pay enormous dividends for Indianapolis as RB Trent Richardson once again turned in a dominating performance on Sunday, rushing for 173 yards and 3 TDs in the Colts 38-8 dismantling of the St. Louis Rams.
“The guy is simply a Mack truck speeding downhill. He’s impossible to stop,” said Rams DE Chris Long. We spent all week focusing our game plan on gang tackling him, stacking 8 men in the box, anything to somehow contain him. Then he takes the very first handoff for 76 yards and a score. There’s just nothing we could do.”
“Of course we knew we were getting a special player in Trent when we acquired him from Cleveland, but honestly, we didn’t realize just how special,” raved Indianapolis coach Chuck Pagano. “Looks what he’s accomplished since he got here: We’ve won seven straight games. Ours is the number one rushing attack in the NFL. And T-Rich is currently on pace for over 2,300 yards and 26 scores. I’m just glad we got him as cheaply as we did. He would’ve been worth five first round draft picks, knowing what we know now.”
Richardson, who has gained a minimum of 125 yards in each of his games wearing an Indy uniform, is currently averaging an eye-popping 6.3 yards per carry and his 1,306 rushing yards leads the NFL by over 400 yards more than the next closest rusher.
“I’m thrilled to be part of a winning team here with Indianapolis,” said Richardson after being awarded the game ball by his coaches, an event that has become a weekly occurrence since he arrived. “Like everyone else, I was surprised when Cleveland traded me. I almost got the impression they perceived me as overhyped and not capable of carrying a heavy rushing load. Well, I guess I’ve sure showed them.”
